Changing time signature makes all linebreaks disappear

• Apr 5, 2017 - 21:45

See attached score: drag and drop 4/4 instead of 2/2 and all linebreaks are deleted

Think about it - in a change from 4/4 to 3/4, those line break don't make sense any more. That is, they now apply to time positions that aren't even the ends of measures any more. I doubt you'd want line break in the middle of measures And realistically, your reasons to have added those line breaks most likely won't apply any more either (eg, if you are trying for four measures per line, after a change from 4/4 to 3/4, you'll want the line break after what was formerly the *third* measure, since that is now the *fourth* measure).

It does just so happen that in a change from 4/4 to 2/2, the measures *do* end up being the same, so we could special case situations like this and preserve existing line break. This is a requested enhancement that we may well implement some day - see #51176: Change the time signature remove the score elements.

In folk music you have several pieces which are played in 3/4 then in 6/8 and such time signature should be ok as well.
So the math is "simple" (it's easier to say than to program I know), when changing from a/b to c/d and axd = bxc please preserve existing score elements.

Maybe relatively easy between a/n and b/n.
But not between a/n and b/m.

example:
What if someone wants 4/4 to 9/8 (or 6/8) ? (Yes, users ask [want] everything :D )

what will happen;
1. The software does nominator, denominator calculations.
2. It gives the error message: "These two are not suitable for translation".

A programmer does not want to open a query (or error, or warning message) window in front of the user (as far as possible).
