File-->Save As-->foo.png does not overwrite old version even when explicitly requested on Windows XP.
1) When File-->Save As-->foo.png is selected, a filename is entered that matches the exact name of an old version.
2) A dialog is displayed saying "fullpathname\foo.png already exists." Do you want to replace it?
3) I say yes.
4) The old file is not overwritten and a new version with a hyphenated version name is created.

What version of MuseScore are you using?
Are you perhaps encountering this?: #10929: PNG exported with overwrite-avoiding name and overwrites without prompt if exported again
If you haven't already, could you take a look at this for future reports?

Yes, this sounds the same. I just verified it under WIn7 32-bit, MS 1.2
