3 "problems" with keyboard to enter fingerings in 2.1

I was very exited to read that entering fingering by keyboard would be possible in 2.1 but I'm disappointed by what I have found.
Perhaps I've not looked correctly enough.
I've only found a new "Add fingering" in Preferences-Shortcuts.

Suppose you assign ctrl+d (d from digits...), there are three problems:

1) Entering the fingering 'i' for a simple note requires 3 keyboard actions instead of one:
CTRL-d
i
ESC

2) Entering the same fingering for several selected notes by keyboard doesn't work, you have to use the mouse to do that.

3) After entering a fingering by keyboard, the fingering is selected and you have to use the mouse to select the following note to enter the next fingering, it is not possible by keyboard.

From these 3 "problems", the third one is clearly the most important: it forces you to use the mouse for each and every note for which you enter fingering, which almost destroys the added value of the new keyboard shortcut.
A great solution and easy to remember would be to offer the same facility as chords do: space=next note, tab=next measure, shift-space = previous note, shift-tab=previous measure.

But, as I said in the beginning, perhaps I didn't find the correct way to do it in 2.1?
