Tie using 2 or more notes?

• Aug 6, 2013 - 18:26

I'm having problems with writing tie's with chords or 2 or more notes
All fine for single notes, but is there a magic solution for the exact procedure for the above?
Usually when i tie one note and then go to tie the one below or above it, the original changes to something else which is not tied!
I'm pretty good at Musescore now and am so grateful it is a free resource, but this is holding me back!

Thanks for any suggestions

hi thanks, but this doesn't seem to work across a bar?
i have 2 quaver C's that i want to tie across to another 2 quaver C's in the next bar....there are lots of ties in this piece!

So, as you pointed out, you can't create a tie over a barline if you don't have a following note. The same rule exists for chords. If you want, you could submit a feature request as tying across the barline could be handy. Personally I don't use the tie feature while entering notes as most of the time the note it ties to is not the same length as the first one.

One trick to enter a tied note (not chord) over a barline is to enter a note twice the value as it will auto-split between the two bars and a tie will be added.

I find it easier to simply enter all the notes and then go back, select the first notes of all ties and tie them. Same with breaking beam groups, adding articulations, etc.
