Way to hear notes played on keyboard while playback mode is engaged?

I'm looking for a way to be able to hear the notes that I'm playing on my MIDI keyboard while Musescore plays back what I've already entered. Basically, I want to be able to noodle over my existing partially written composition to try out new ideas. However, when playback is running, none of the notes I press on my keyboard are played on the speaker. Is there a way to hear both playback and MIDI input at the same time?

From what I understand in this bug report, the user was having this trouble during note entry, not during playback. Ie, he had a synthesizer that would play notes when he pressed them and Musescore was playing them at the same time. The option the bug refers to will stop notes from being played during note entry.

What I'm looking for is a way for notes to be played during playback. At the moment, the MIDI thru seems to be automatically disabled during playback.

Very late I know, but may be useful to some people.
Add a new blank stave to the score. I add a Piano and then remove the Bass Clef.
Move the Piano stave to the top of the score so that it is usually visible.
Select any bar in the new piano stave and play your keyboard.
In the Mixer you may need to set the Piano to highish volume and the Instruments in the Score to lowish volume to hear the Piano. You can change the Instrument in the "Piano" to whatever you want. BTW the Instrument in the score probably was playing at very low volume
