Editing Text Attributes.

• Jul 5, 2017 - 11:38

I import quite a lot of music from abc files.

I have a saved style file which has modified the score attributes including spacing but also font settings for title, composer, chords and lyrics.

Imports from abc will use the default settings until I load the saved style file. This will automatically adjust stave settings but not the text settings. It's fairly easy to edit text for title & composer by right clicking on the text and selecting "Text Properties" from the drop down menu.

However, this doesn't work for chord symbols. If you right click on a chord symbol you get a choice of "Edit Element" which only allows you to change the chord symbol itself or "Text Style" which takes to the style settings but if you click on "Apply" or "OK" it does nothing. So, there seems no way of changing font settings without deleting all the chords and reinserting them. With lyrics you do get the "Text Properies" option but it will only change the lyric initially selected even if you select "All Similar Elements" from the "Select >" menu item.

My immediate query is how to change text settings for all chord symbols and lyrics without having to delete and replace or edit each one individually.

However, I do feel that loading a saved style should apply the changes to all the style settings that have been saved, not just the staff attributes.

(Should I add the last para separately as a feature request? I'm new to the forum so some advice would be helpful)

Edit to add: I should have said I'm using MuseScore 2.03 in Linux

Changing style does not change existing text, this is a known bug.

And text style doesn't (fully) apply to chord symbols, that much is by design, as these are parsed and interpreted.

You may want to upgrade to MuseScore 2.1

Meanwhile, though, the simple workaround is to select all chord symbols at once (eg, right click one, Select / All Similar Elements) then click the "Reset Text to Style" button in the Inspector. You can do the same with lyrics and other text element types.
