Handbook editing is not yet up to scratch on the new website:

1: TABS were much more informative and quicker to use allowing the user to quickly switch between (a) handbook (b) Edit and (c) version history

  1. When comparing two versions for changes, you have to scroll right down to the bottom of the screen for the "Compare selected revision" button.

  2. When you navigate to the Edit or Revisions page, there is no way to directly navigate to any of the other pages (handbook, Edit or Revisions)

Title Handbook editing: Problems Handbook navigation suggestions

Allow me to change the title, as there are no real problems with handbook editing. I'm taking the suggestions under consideration, but we have currently more pressing things.

A few more issues:

  1. If you go to the "Preview" page, you have to return to the "Edit" page to save the page. IMV, the preview page should have a "Save" button on it.
  2. If you go to Preview, when you return to the Edit page, you lose the place you navigated to in the edit window.

An update on this issue

  1. Unfortunately we can't bring back the tabs. It's a matter of getting used to the new design and improve it where needed.
  2. Fixed
  3. This is still open
  4. We did a quick investigation, but it doesn't seem like an obvious fix. We didn't check further since other things were more urgent.
  5. It's not possible technically to add the Save button on the preview. It used to be possible with the previous site, but unfortunately we lost this with the new site.
  6. This is standard browser behaviour. When clicking on Preview, press Ctrl (Cmd for Mac) so it opens the preview in a new browser tab.
  7. Fixed.

I would ideally like to have a live edit preview (perhaps using a Markdown JavaScript library), which would mean (5) is no longer an issue. The preview could appear below the edit field (like Stack Exchange) or use a button/tab to switch between the edit field and the preview (like GitHub).
