Placement of notes in chords

• Jan 31, 2014 - 13:50

Does anybody know if it is possible to tidy up a chord to make it easier to read? Entering a chord, especially if two of its notes are a 2nd apart, is often not as one would expect to see in published music. I have tried to re-write the chord starting from the other end, but the note placement is the same. In piano music I often have to split the chord into Voice 1 and Voice 2 to improve the clarity.

Currently, seconds are handled well by default in single voice chords, but not when multiple voices are involved. There are a number of workarounds, depending on the specific chord involved, but the basic commands you need to know are Shift-X to flip a notehead to the opposite side of the stem and double-click/arrow keys to fine tune position of note heads manually (the stem follows where appropriate when you complete your fine tuning).
