Support for alternative musical notations, esp. chromatic-staff?

MuseScore currently only supports the traditional music notation, though there are better alternatives and many prefer those. See here [1] for more information about alternatives. Especially, we can agree that the chromatic staff notation is superior to the traditional notation in many aspects.

Now, according to a forum post about 8 mo. ago [2], there is already a working fork of MuseScore that supports the chromatic staff notation, which can be found here [3], under GNU GPL 2.0. However, it is never merged back into the main development branch of MuseScore.

I would assume that this would be something that can be better done through the add-on system. Is there a work in progress about this? Can the developers point out what needs to be done and how through the add-on system, so someone who programs, like myself, might be able to asses their own abilities, and maybe take on?
