Extra rest throws off 'count'

• Mar 3, 2018 - 01:14

My score is 4/4, the first measure is a pickup, just one quarter note. I think that is OK; nominal 4/4, actual 1/4. The rest of the measures are all nominal & actual 4/4. Last measure in the piece is nominal 4/4, actual 3/4.

However, for some reason, measure #2 in 3 of my 4 staves has a total "count" of 5 beats. IDK how to remove the trailing quarter-note rest in those measures. Hope this makes sense.

I attached my file. My original one apparently got corrupted the last time I was editing it, and the barlines got all moved around. Took me a long time to get this thing redone.

I fixed it rather quickly. I inserted a measure between 2& 3, then reentered the measure by hand and deleted the wrong measure. IDK how this happened, but for some reason it has been known to happen when users insert and delete time signatures trying to "fix" their scores.

Thanks so much, Mike! And extra thanks for attaching the fixed score.

Yes, when I tried to work on my corrupted file (the barlines had shifted 1 or 2 notes to the right...) I may indeed have tried to change the time sig. It was showing 1/4 on the corrupted file. So probably when I edited it to 4/4 (despite the manual telling me that the nominal sig cannot be edited...) that messed up my 2d measure. Anyway, I learn a little more every time I use MuseScore and love it. Thanks again! ~Marilyn
