A little help, Please!!!

• Jun 9, 2018 - 23:39

Hi, gang!!!

I've been working on Beethoven 6th Symphony, 1st movement, "rescued" from an old midi standard file.

I was working on it this afternoon (16:00 hrs. here, in Chile), and I have to leave, from a couple of hours, so I saved the work into my PC.

BUT... Now I come back and... I CAN NOT TO READ IT!!!!!

I can read a lot of other music scores here but... Beethoven 6th Symphony, 1st movement!!!

I added the file, to expect that somebody can rescue something from that and... Return it to me in a readable way, PLEASE!!!

And... I want to know... What's happened here???

Thank you so much for your time!!!

Blessings & Greetings from Chile!!!

JUAN

The good news is that there is data in the file so someone will likely be able to fix it using some utility that repairs zip files. A .mscz file is actually a zipped .mscx file with some stuff added to it. If you have a .zip repair utility or can find one on the web you can fix it yourself. I've never done it before, but I've heard of it working.

This sounds like a bug. I would be nice for others who use your operating system and accented alphabets to test it further. If I recall correctly, you use Linux. It may be a bug in QT (the interface) that is used by not programmed by MuseScore contributors, in which case the contributors will need to find a workaround rather than expecting the user's to.

Hi, Mike!!!

I upgraded my Linux system from UbuntuStudio 16.04 LTS to the last 18.04 and...

1) When my "new" system started from the scratch, MuseScore didn't have problems with this. But...

2) I upgraded the system languages package and I changed the keyboard distribution to my Spanish Latin-American keyboard. Now... The problem comes back, again!!!!!!

But... I tested it and it is not the Beethoven score title with the "í" character, only. I try to save a copy of the "good" score, with a different title, without spanish special characters, and... Even MuseScore didn't show any error when it saved it... Now I can not read it!!!

So... Something is wrong here!!!

Does that mean you have files you need help with again? If so, post them and someone will help you.

If you don't need help but can identify scores that have a problem, please post them and explain what you did to make them unreadable. This may be a step in solving a long standing bug that has been causing people to lose files.

No, Mike!!!

I don't need help now, because I have backup files of the Beethoven's file.

I tested again, after two re-starting of my system (with all the possible updating data), and... Now the problem is gone!!!

I don't know where is the problem itself, but I guess it is related with language compatibility.

BTW: The only changes I did into the bad file, was some tr... symbol I added to the flute part. I replaced it by two simple "fusas" (1/32th notes) and saved the work with both, the Spanish characters title and without Spanish character title. Both are readable now!!!

I forgot to say that, before I got the problems, when I clicked on the "Save" button, I got the message: "MuseScore can not to save the file because an unknown problem."

The issue is... MuseScore saves the file, but... In an unreadable way!!!

If I used the "Save as..." Command (from the File Menu), I didn't get any message. MuseScore saved the file, but... In an unreadable way, too!!!

So... I don't have any clue what is the problem!!! Maybe a virus??? In Linux???

Hi, Jojo!!!

I really want to know how to configure those things, but I don't!!!

BTW: This issue is not only with MuseScore. I've lost some audio files too. I guess, just guess... Could it due because I was working into some moment when the Linux system is not 100% OK to work with it???

It really sounds like you may have found a/the bug that causes files to be lost. One of the ways this has been seen is that only the header info for a zip file is saved and then cut off. If this happens again, remember everything you can that causes it and attach your file to a new thread here.
