New user asks: Input from keyboard appears as all quarter notes or chords?
I'm brand new to this thing. When I connect my Yamaha keyboard to my Mac and play, the sheet music displays as chords or all quarter notes. How can I tell it to recognize rhythms properly?

Set a different duration. Please take the time to read the handbook, here esp. https://musescore.org/en/handbook/note-input
Sounds like you are wanting to play in real time and have MuseScore figure out durations for you. This is an extremely complex and somewhat experimental thing that will only work to a limited extent. To learn how, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/note-input-modes#realtime-auto. But you will likely find it more efficient to just select durations as you go - "step time" input.
