i have small runs of eighth notes. it is swinging them and it is kind of painful. Please Help

From Louis' link you can see there are two possibilities. You either entered a swing text or used Style->General to set swing. One other way is that you could have used System text and set the swing to on. Every System text element gives you the option, when you right click it, to select System Text properties where there is a tab to turn on swing. Without seeing the actual score, this is all anyone can do for you.
