add second voice problem
After entering the first voice, I return to the start of the section, highlight the first note in note input mode, click the voice 2 button. Then a rest appears in the voice 1 line and the initial note becomes the first note of voice 2. Is this expected?

For entering the voice one, first you type "N" for note input, after you enter your notes in voice 1.Go out of note input in clicking N. You return to the first note, you select it, it becomes blue, CLICK N, and then, choose voice 2, you enter your notes in voices 2.
Sounds like you left note input mode before pressing the voice 2 button. Assuming so, then yes, that would send the note to voice 2 and leave a rest in its place. If your goal is to enter new notes into voice 2, then you need to be in note input mode when you press the voice 2 button.
