Long tied notes are playing half value for no apparent reason

• Nov 29, 2018 - 03:32

I have a massive chord on an effect synthesizer that's supposed to last for 21 measures. I connected it with ties, not slurs, from measure to measure, like I do all the time, but this time it's deciding to just stop about halfway through it's intended length. I really need to get past this as I am working on a tight deadline.

The problem is probably that the sound is the same as for the electric piano. Find a different sound, even the same sound from a different sound font for one of them. It's a know issue that the same sound will be stopped by the shorter note. The other possibility is to remove the check from "Play" for the electric piano on notes where it is in unison with the synthesizer.

This is supposed to be fixed in version 3, but I haven't tested it.

It just rings out as far as I can tell.

Hmm, no, it is not (I changed to organ sound to hear it better)

It seems to be because there are notes missing, you've tied accross empty measures

As far as I can tell this is simply because the sound you selected (Ice Rain) doens't sustian that long. Not all instruments sustain indefinitely, many have a natural decay (eg, piano, a cybaml crash). Obviously electronic sounds could be programmed either way, this one apparently was programmed to only last so long. Change to a different sound and you're good to go.

Of course ties across emprtty measures don't make sense either, but that's not the problem. Nor is the problem with overlapping sounds using the same instrument - that problem was fixed quite some time ago and isn't an issue in 2.3.2 or 3.0.

Maybe we're talking about something different. I deleted all instruments except the "Effects Synthesizer", then deleted all measures before the 9/16, and pressed play. The sound clearly died out long before it was supposed to, to the point where it was basically silent the last few bars of the 7/4 section. Changing to "church organ" absolutely fixed it - now it sustained the full notated length.
