Doesn't seem easily possible to hide behind -e, and it seems it never was, but instead behind a build option,
OMR
, which would disable it entirly.Probably should be that way (disable entirely) to go for release, but kept for (further) development?

Yours is definitely the hammer-nail "guaranteed to work" solution. I did attempt to hide behind experimental, compared with what is done for the layers command, seemed easy enough: https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/pull/4480
Not sure if I'll be able to test the artifact as we do have family days coming up.
disabling the option to open PDFs in the open file dialog is the part that a) is not easily hidable behind -e and b) the more annoying and user visible part (for a non-working and undocumented feature)
