MS3 crashes when I attempt to put barlines in mid measure and pallette problem

• Dec 29, 2018 - 02:58

I want to put a repeat after beat 3 instead of beat 4 [4/4 time]. I have tried all the usual methods I've used before, but each time MS 3 crashes. When I search for this, nothing relevant comes up.
Also, the basic/advanced button on the pallette box is too low--it is hidden at the bottom of the screen unless I cover the name tab of the piece I'm working on by moving the whole pallette up. Is there a default to keep the left-hand pallette in advanced mode?
Thanks as usual!
Scott

I don't know what you did in version 2 or what's causing the crash in version 3, but if you make the measure have 3 beats then 1 beat and select the first note/rest of the 4th beat, you can use Tools->Measure->Split measure before selected note/rest. You can then enter the repeat bar line you want. Note, that both halves of the measure will unfortunately show measure rests, so you'll have to fix this if it is a problem. The easiest way to fix it is to select all of the affected measures and press delete and the rests will be correct for the measure.

If you can explain how to make the crash, then please post it so it can be fixed. Please enter it as a bug report in https://musescore.org/en/node/add/project_issue?pid=1236

Issue created #280837: MS3 crashes when I attempt to put barlines in mid measure.

The method I suggested is necessary though fixing the rests should not be. Dragging the repeat or double clicking it in the middle of a measure never made MuseScore playback properly, though in version 2 it looked right. Also, you only have to split the measure once and add the bar line once, unlike your method where you have to enter it on every staff. During development, it was planned to allow dragging or double clicking bar lines as you like to do would properly split measures and make playback work, but that has not been implemented.

There is probably something going on with your display that I'm not thinking of right now and someone will tell you what it is so your palettes will display properly. You didn't mention the cursor problem in this post, so I don't know what the problem is.

You need to limit a bug report to a single issue. Can you explain the cursor issue better? How are your notes being entered when the cursor sticks? What input mode are you using?

See my other post in reply to explain how the cursor seems to forget to advance, resulting in rests where I input notes. qwerty or midi the same result.
