Check what was downloaded.

It downloaded the musescore 2.3.2 msi.

This is a major issue because I didn't notice I had downloaded the wrong package, so I ran the installer which proposed me to uninstall Musescore 2. Thinking it was necessary for musescore 3 to be installed, I (stupidly) agreed. Doesn't matter so much because things in "documents/musescore 2/" were not wiped out (the directory wasn't deleted) but still.

Do you use 32-bit OS? If so, you are not able to run 64-bit package, that is why the big green button directs you to the 2.3.2 version.

Btw, we need to change this behaviour and let the users of Win 7+ 32-bit download 32-bit package of MuseScore 3.0.1.

The download button on the frontpage is indeed doing some checking on OS and 64/32bit. When you are for instance on a Win32 bit OS, you will see below the download button that it will serve you the 2.3.2 built.

Now that we have the 32bit package, we can change this behavior. Will keep you posted when this is done.

musescore.org frontpage is serving now the 64bit package for Windows by default, but when a 32-bit Windows version is detected, it will serve the 32-bit version. In case a 64-bit Windows user still wants to download the 32-bit package, one can download it via https://musescore.org/en/download
