Wonky frames etc.

• Jan 22, 2019 - 09:08

I've just loaded MuseScore 3. There seem to be a few problems. The most obvious is that frames from files made in MuseScore 2 are knocked out of place. The same goes for breaks. When creating a new score, I can't get the frames properly placed: The Title or Subtitle is OK, but when I try to add a frame to show the Composer it appears way down the page and I can't move the frame - just the text, which leaves an orphan frame and a large space. Finally, there seemed to be no way of deleting bars until I discovered that command-delete worked. I wouldn't recommend 'upgrading' to 3.0 yet - it is actually a downgrade.

(vertical and horizontal) frames and (system, page, section) breaks work just fine for me

Cmd+Del is indeed the way to delete measures, just like it was in 2.x, but now it is more powerful, it can even delete partial measures now. Only its removal from the right click context menu and its renaming in the menu to "Timewise delete" is something we're thinking on how to improve, see #279389: Request to rename "Timewise delete" command

"I can't move the frame - just the text, which leaves an orphan frame and a large space."

Does your score contain staff-1 line, for example for Snare Drum (perc. 1 line) or other?
In this case, I saw this case last night, here: https://musescore.org/fr/node/282397 (it's not yet reported).

To make horizontal frames reappear, at least temporarily, go to the instrument dialog box (I"), and change the staff type, for example, perc.3 lines.
Or via staff properties.

Maybe that's what I'll have to do, but in MuseScore 2 the Composer frame tucked up immediately below the Title frame, which is where I want it to go. In this version there is a large gap between the frames, which I don't have the knowhow to shift. I could put the Title and Composer in the same frame, but then everything in that frame is affected by eg. centre or left justification, whereas what I want is the title centred and the composer right-justified.

OK, but it worked just fine before.

I've been trying the other frame types now with little success - I can't see how to insert text into a vertical frame, nor see how to delete a frame (selecting and deleting won't work). There is also still a large gap between the two frames which I can't close up. These are probably issue to do with my ignorance, but they're annoying nonetheless.

Some things that might have worked on older version might have exploited a bug.
Not the case here I think, but still no reason to not use the right tools instead ;-)

Add a composer to a vertical frame is as easy as right clicking into it and select 'Composer"
Deleting is as easy as selecting it and hit Del
No need for 2 frames next to one another, but there's settings for each to control the distances, check Inspector
