Double stem for one note

• Mar 7, 2019 - 22:11

Need to put an up AND down stem on a single note (e.g. alto and soprano sing the same note). I'm sure it's in the handbook somewhere but I personally cannot find it (so please, if you'd be so kind, do not tell me it's in the handbook) Reference to page number is appreciated..

Thank you....working on the reference....my first attempt put the two notes side-by-side, but it tells how to combine...I'll work on it...just slow. Thank you again.

The notes combine automaticlly if they are the same type of note (eg, both quarter notes, both half notes, etc). If they aren't the same type of note it isn't normally correct to combine them, as it will confuse whichever person has to read the part with the wrong notehead. So best not to override this; it should be correct already. The main exception is music for a single guitar or piano player who is going to want want hold it longer duration no matter what.
