Select the fermata, open the inspector (press F8) if it's not open already and increase the Stretch field. Note that all notes on the same beat will be lengthened to play the same amount of time as the note you adjust. Don't adjust the stretch for multiple fermatas that overlap in playback, you will probably not get the results you want.
