Musescore note stacking and bar stretching/displacement

Hi I have an issue in musescore's formatting system for bars. I'm hiding a secondary voice behind the A note (above the selected note) which is causing the bar to stretch to the right with empty space. Without the seconary voice the bar will space itself 'normally'. Is there a way to prevent this from occuring? I've tried messing with manual offsets and stuff but nothing works. Thanks
