The real time automatic function SHOULD work as follows (or maybe create another function to work as described here);
It would be great IF there was a function that would write each note as I play it (on the MuscScore Keyboard) AND write the note with the correct timing. That is, given a set time signature, a quarter note would be displayed as I play to that timing, and other notes, eighth, whole, half, etc., would be displayed as I play with those other timing.
Is this possible to incorporate into MuscScore?

Can you explain how this differs from the current real-time mode? Sounds like how it does work to me.
There's a noticeable delay between entering the note and playback starting. It doesn't work like you'd expect on other applications that do this (mainly Logic Pro and Digital Performer).
