Difficulty using "Tie" feature on whole notes
When I tie two two whole notes together (in 4/4), instead of it having one whole note in each bar with a tie segment in between, I get a double whole note that takes up one bar, the other bar is completely unoccupied (no rest or anything just completely empty) and for the life of me can't figure out how to fix this. Tried everything I could think of: Restarting computer, revert to factory settings, etc. this double whole note deal is extremely unpleasant. could anyone please tell me what's happening. There are also issues when I press the "tie" button such as invisible notes on the staff and dotted whole notes somehow fitting in half a bar.

How are you using the tie? I've been doing this without issue.
e need OS and MuseScore version.
You might have enabled am option for early music. Score needed to verify
@rosannegiza, likely you turned on insert mode, see: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/note-input-modes#timewise

Not quite what I meant, but also a possible cause

OK... Explain more precisely, also attach a score showing when I press the "tie" button such as invisible notes on the staff and dotted whole notes somehow fitting in half a bar.
My guess is you have enabled the experimented "Display note values across measure boundaries" option in Format / Style / Score. Turn it back off.
