Adding a new Time Signature in the center of a Measure.

• Feb 21, 2020 - 04:06

Hi, I have a piece of music I am typesetting and need to put a new time signature in the center of a measure. When you select the note you want the time signature to go ahead of it jumps to the beginning of that measure, (I need it to change time signatures after the first note in the measure. Any way to do this?

As workaround split the measure after the first note or join the measures before the change.
I don't know if there's a better canonical way.

Changing time signature mid-measure doesn't really make sense musically, it wouldn't be clear what it means. No doubt someone somewhere printed some music that way, but it's not standard at all. So if you want to replicate that effect, you'll need to be more explicit to MsueScore about what you mean. Split the measure as suggested above, using Tools / Measure / Split Measure Before Selected Note/Rest, then add the time signature to the second half of the measure. You can hide the barline if you like by pressing "V".
