Unable to Add SoundFont in Synthesizer

• Jul 28, 2020 - 22:40

I downloaded Symphonic Sounds.sf2, opened it in MuseScore, and the following message was displayed: "Do you want to install the SoundFont Symphonic Sounds.sf2?" I selected "Yes" and the following message was displayed: "SoundFont installed. Please go to View > Synthesizer to add it and View > Mixer to choose an instrument sound." I selected "OK", went to "view" and opened the synthesizer. Under the heading "Fluid," the only item is MuseScore_General.sf3. I selected "Add" to add Symphonic Sounds.sf2, but MuseScore_General.sf3 is still the only item there. I checked the folder ~/Documents/MuseScore3/Soundfonts and Symphonic Sounds.sf2 is located there. I already tried reverting MuseScore to factory settings and that did nothing. What should I do to add the SoundFont?

I'm using Mac OS Catalina 10.15.5 and MuseScore 3.4.2. So, last night I totally wiped all traces of MuseScore from my laptop then re-download it, and that fixed the problem. (Didn't see your message until after I finished…) All the SoundFonts are appearing in the synthesizer now when I install them. I'm guessing there was something in one of the folders in the library (caches, logs, preferences, etc.) that was causing this problem. I'm sure if I had looked through each file there I'd have found it, but I'm not sure I'm patient enough for that. Thanks for the help! :)
