Hide Accompaniment Instruments in Parts

• Oct 7, 2020 - 23:41

I am writing beginning band book exercises for 17 different instruments and have also written simple accompaniments for these exercises. In a typical 8 measure exercise, the score would include unison notes for the 18 band instruments plus 3 accompaniment instruments (piano, bass, drums). To create parts with an accompaniment playing along I choose Parts->Single Part and include the band instrument such as Flute plus the 3 accompaniment parts. Students are then able to play the exercise along with an accompaniment. But, I want to hide the accompaniment instruments in each exercise. With young students it is confusing to see all 4 staves. Is it possible to hide the accompaniment instruments in parts?

Not while the part is linked to the main score. You can select a part and use Save as to make it independent from the main score then hide the accompanying instruments but then you would have to update both if you make a change.

An alternative is to just hide the accompaniment in the main score but then it won't be included in the conductor's score. This might be acceptable for what you describe.

Either way you go, to hide instruments, press i to open the instruments dialog and uncheck Visible for the appropriate instruments.
