I would like to see a command to vertically align the chord diagrams at the nut (or at the lowest fret if nut is unchecked) Ideally realignment would apply to diagrams score wide or just the selected diagrams.

And switching to a default constraint on a "simple" drag would likely prevent y misalignment from occuring:

• on drag constrain y if the initial or predominant drag is x
• on drag constrain x if the initial or predominant drag is y
• override active constraint if a modifier key is applied (opposite of the current model where a modifier key is needed for constraint.)

Thanks for considering!

Title Chord diagram enhancements Align fret diagrams at the nut instead of baseline

Changes to drag behavior would, I think, be need to be done uniformly - different element types shouldn't behave differently or people would get very confused.

For the record, constraining is already easy in several ways - Ctrl for horizontal / Shift for vertical, or use the keyboard for more precise adjustments (Ctrl+Up/Down to move in exact 1sp increments, Up/Down alone for 0.1sp), or use the Inspector. I'm not sure most people would find it an improvement to find dragging constrained automatically, but I could imagine this being a preference one. Feel free to start a forum discussion on that topic.

As mentioned, nudging by keyboard is already possible, just double-click to put in edit mode. Again, this is true for all elements, not just fret diagrams.

Automatic alignment at the nut would be good indeed. You can already align automatically (just set the maximum shift amount in Format / Style / Fret Diagrams), but it aligns to the bottom of the diagram, not the nut. In case that is preferable to some, we could simply improve the chord symbol alignment to handle chord symbols attached to fret diagrams. Aligning the chord symbols, would, I think, automatically produce the expected alignment of the fret diagrams as well?

I've changed the title of this to reflect that, as it the most specific thing here so far that could be seen as a single issue.

Regarding the rest, it's better to open separate threads for separate requests. And generally best to ask on the forum first to be sure the feature doesn't already exist.

BTW, showing the chord symbol in the palette itself would be nice but implementation is very tricky due to how this is all implemented. note you can see the name if you hover over the diagram - that was the best compromise we could come up with. Someday maybe someone will figure out a way to do better. But meanwhile, there is already an issue for that - see #110096: Fretboard Diagrams palette: Display chord names for ease of use - so no need to create a new one.

Agreed.

I'd rather see the diagrams hanging from their nuts (Oops sorry!) than having their nuts at different heights. (Oh jeez, this only gets worse! How do I get out of this sentence?)

I too have thought some sort of Chord Symbol / Chord diagram sync would be worth considering.

Marc,

I've deleted my other requests from the original post
a) because you changed the title
b) because you suggested the other request get their own post
