Space between first staff and second is different than between the other staffs.

• Dec 21, 2020 - 14:37

Hello, maybe it is a glitch or I am doing something wrong, but here is my problem. As you can see, I adjusted the space between the staffs. But for some reason it won't affect the space between the 1st and the 2nd. I already have changed the staff space, system space, maximum and minimum system distance. I have searched online for this same problem but haven't found it. Can someone help?

Wow! you did a number on that. You moved the 4/4 time signature, you added a bunch of returns after the tempo mark and changed nearly every setting you could on Page in the Style settings. I don't suggest that you change 10 things if something doesn't look right. One or two changes at the most will fix nearly anything. If you can't figure it out then ask here, people will help.

Here's the score with the defaults restored.

I'm going to guess that at some point you ended up in insert mode and added a bunch of notes to measures 2 & 4. You then manually added barlines to make it look right.

In Default (Step-time) mode, MuseScore will keep 4 beats in every 4/4 measure, moving the cursor to the next measure when one is full. You don't normally want to make long measures like this. They make formatting quite difficult.

Yeah I know... I am quite new to musescore and I wanted to experiment with the distances. While I was doing that suddenly my problem occurred. But thanks a lot for the help! I really appreciate it. And next time i'll ask it first on the forum before trying to fix it myself and making it worse haha.

I don't want to deter you from experimenting, it's a good way to learn the program and everyone who tries to help here learned a lot by experimenting with settings. Once you see a setting doesn't fix what you want, undo your change. I reset everything in style by pressing the round arrows that reset settings to default. If all else fails, close the score without saving and start again. ctrl+z also undoes most things.

You need to attach the actual score to find out the exact cause. There is some setting that really strange in your score. Your first system is too high and all of the system breaks are too low.
