FWIW, also note you can customize the note input toolbar via View / Toolbars / Customize Toolbars. So in such a workspace, you could remove the 128th notes, quadruple dots, and other buttons you don't really need, making it much more likely to fit in one column.

With the Inspector instead of the Palettes, it does work correctly. That makes me guess it is related to the fact that Palettes use QML.
Workaround is to leave the toolbars where they are by default: horizontally at the top
