Rest values

Would appreciate your clarification on this:
Please see attached score sheet. The Time Signature is 6, 8. The first two bars in the Soprano line have full bar rest, i.e. six beats rest. Then why is a semibreve rest shown (which is only 4 beats rest)? Alternatively it should have 3 rest signs of crochet symbol. Kindly explain. Thanks.

It is not a semibreve rest. If it was, it would be left-aligned in the measure.
That same symbol center aligned in a measure is called a "measure rest" and always has the duration of the full measure.
