There are times when Figured Bass needs to be input where no note or rest exists. In this case hidden notes can be input but that is a real bother and should not be necessary. A much better solution is to use a non-breaking space to separate figures. The figure remains attached to one note but more figures can follow it separated by non-breaking spaces. It sort of works now, but only for some cases and with slightly incorrect display:
- the figure has to be on one line
- the figure can't contain any alterations like a plus or slash
- after entry the font appears at the wrong size (slightly larger than normal), and the position is slightly off
My suggestion is to allow figures to include non-breaking spaces for all cases and to display the results correctly.
Comments
Figured bass can be entered where there are no notes or rests - just use the Ctrl+number shortcuts as documented in the Handbook.
Not that we couldn't consider supporting non-breaking spaces for other reasons if there are real world use cases for it.

Oops! I never got that to work on my Mac, so some time in the past I simply forgot about it. Looking at the list again now I see what I was doing wrong. I had missed the note at the very bottom which says that on Mac the modifier key is not Ctrl, it's Cmd. Then, lo and behold, it works. So thank you. I suppose there's no need for this request.
