MuseScore 3.x and Pianoteq (or other apps) - Mac OS

• Sep 4, 2021 - 21:53

Hi, everyone. The last forum entry I could find about how to route MIDI from MuseScore to Pianoteq was more than a year old using software for Windows.

Has anyone in this forum been able to send the MIDI output from MuseScore to audio apps such as Pianoteq on the Mac?

If so, could you please detail the steps you did to make this work?

Thanks so much in advance!

David

If Pianoteq sets itself up on macOS to present MIDI ports to other applications, it should be as simple as selecting that port in Edit / Preferences / I/O from MuseScore. Otherwise, you will need to use JACK or similar software to connect the two. JACK is cross-platform.

Nothing significant has changed in this area for quite a few years, so I wouldn't be too concerned if you find tutorials that don't seem terribly current. Obviously recent is better, all else equal. But chances are excellent anything from the last 5-6 years is still applicable in all meaningful ways.

Hi, Marc. Thanks.
With your help and https://musescore.org/en/node/301975, I was able to get the output of MuseScore piano part to play in Pianoteq 😺

However, anything I play from MuseScore is ALSO playing the piano instrument in MuseScore. How do I tell MuseScore to send the MIDI but not play its internal piano instrument (in other words, I'm hearing the piano sound from MuseScore AND the Pianoteq sound simultaneously).

I've tried muting the piano in MuseScore, and I've tried turning off "Play" for the notes, but then no MIDI data is reaching Pianoteq.

Attached is my setup. I hope that someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong and how to eliminate MuseScore's piano from playing.

Thanks very much for the help!
David

I think people using this type of configuration typically either mute MuseScore at the application level (most OS's provide controls for that), or turn down the overall volume (although I suspect that might affect at least some MIDI output systems) or select a different output device or delete the soundfont.
