Help for Newby please...Base clef on top

• Mar 29, 2022 - 10:00

hi everybody,
I am totally new in musecore and beginner in piano playing. When I import the midi file 'stand by me' the base staff is on top! Please see image 1 ....I created a new score, put in grand staff, it looks good. but when I input the midi file, the base clef is on top as shown in image 2
would appreciate your help. What i really want is to have a readable sheet music from the midi files I have in order to help me practice and sight read
thank you very much

A MIDI file is not a score and lacks severe notation information. So upon importing some of those gaps are filled with (educated) guesses.

If you find staves to be in the wrong order, you can use "Edit > Instruments" to change their place.

Realistically, though, the issues in this import go way beyond just the starting clefs. As mentioned, MIDI was never intended for notation and lacks really basic info that would be needed to create readable sheet music.
So notation programs need to guess about tons of things - like which hand is playing which note - and the results are seldom readable. Unless you're a real expert in deciphering this by ear and also an expert in using the editing features of MsueScore, it's usually way easier to just enter the music normally and worry about trying to force the MIDI import into being readable.
