Disable automatic time value adjustments when editing

• Mar 31, 2022 - 18:04

When editing a measure and changing note time values, Musescore likes to adjust other time values within the measure to make everything add up correctly. Musescore does not know what I intend to do next, and it wants to fix timing right away, almost always not what I intend to do next. Is there a way to disable automatic time value corrections while I am making changes? If not, then there should be.

By contrast, Guitar pro doesn't try to change anything, but displays the measure as red if timing does not add up correctly. Then I know I need to fix something. I greatly prefer this behavior.

We all work differently, that's for sure. I find the default behaviour to be a time saver. Please tell us about particular situation where you have a problem with it. Some one may ask you to provide a score and tell the steps you use.
True, MuseScore doesn't know what you want to do next (if anything). And it can't guess when you are done. So it fixes the measure as you go along.

To be "technically" correct, what you're seeing is MuseScore exactly not changing anything about the measure except the change you've asked. Changing a duration does just that, it doesn't also mean shorten/lengthen a measure and/or copy-paste a different amount of things elsewhere. It doesn't "fix" timing, it simply shows you the result of your action, which overwrites something else.

That being clarified, it sounds like your workflow might benefit from using the duration editor plugin: https://musescore.org/en/project/duration-editor .
