Best Orchestral Soundfont in Musescore?

• May 2, 2022 - 10:48

Apparently, the strings (violin, viola) sounds in the default Musescore soundfont are a bit too much for me.

Are there any suggestions regarding these orchestral soundfonts? I had searched all over the internet, soundfonts like Aegean or Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra are often being recommended. But at the end, I'm not really sure which one to choose. Any help for this?

Everyone has a different opinion about what sounds good. Remember, it's not just what you use. It's also how you use it.
That said, the HQ version may well be the best over all. The main reason is that it uses Single Note Dynamics. Aegean, SSO, VPO, and many others do not. There is also the Expres setting in the default font. There are some odd artifacts in the attack and release of notes in some other fonts. I confess to not using the default trumpet and horn from the default. And I'm still looking for a good timpani and tam tam sound.
As you know, there are several choices for strings in the default font. I find that I use different ones depending on the effect I want. Often I use "Strings" for every section in the orchestra. Just depends.
But, there are fonts that sound better. They don't always work well in MuseScore.
