Not a matter of MuseScore, but one of the soundfonts used

So it isn't in the soundfont(s) you use
Yes, there is. But it's quite hard to find ...
Make a staff with any pitched instrument, e.g. Trumpet, Horn.
Open the Mixer (F10), select this channel and open the sound name. Now type several times 'G' to find instruments starting with a 'G' as gunshot. Depending on the installed sound fonts you can find different versions of 'gunshot'.
Select it and now you can add your gunshots in the staff.
Finally rename the staff to gunshot - it's no longer a trumpet :-). This is only an information for the users.

The search facility in the Mixer actually lets you type more than one character, so type "gun" and it takes you right there (as long as you don't wait too long between letters). Or, just know that this is the very last sound in any General MIDI soundfont, and scroll down to the end of the list.
