Lyrics: How to insert two words against a single note?
Lyrics: In a lead sheet, I would like to insert the two words "from the" against a single quarter-note in the melody. The manual claims I can insert a space character on the Mac with Alt-Space, but this acts the same as the space bar and advances the cursor to the next note. As a workaround I can insert the special character "elision mark" but I want a space. How can I do this?

No Mac available, but in Windows I use 'Alt Gr' - Space.
May be you can copy this special space character from the attached score.

Thanks, HildeK. Pasting the special character worked fine! But I do hope to find a more direct solution.
Ctrl+Space, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/lyrics#special-characters

Ctrl+Space is the Windows keystroke, but I find that the keystroke listed for my Mac, Alt-Space, doesn't work either.

Maybe Cmd+Space?

Cmd on the Mac is another name for Alt. It's the same keystroke.

Depends. If the majority of verses has only one syllable there, the two notes are confusing for many people. Church song books differ in how they go about this ...
(with psalms, it's always necessary to have longer text segments on a single note ... but that's problem another "use case").

I'v also seen this in hymnals done with just two 8ths connected by a dashed tie. Which Muse score doesn't have. I've also seen it where the 8ths are smaller.
As far as being confusing? Not if people are reading and following the director.

MuseScore has a dotted tie - just select it in the Inspector:
Re director - our congregation, and all others I have seen and played organ for, dearly lack such an enlightened, and enlightening, leader ...

I forgot about the inspector. So you think this is confusing?
All the groups I've ever been in seem to be able to figure it out. None where professional.

That's not what I said ... but let's leave it at that.

No, the Mac equivalent of Alt is Option. Cmd on Mac is the equivalent of Ctrl on other systems. And Ctrl on Mac is just something else entirely.

And the handbook pretty consistently uses Alt to describe that key. Only one place used option, fixed now
Option-space on mac inserts a space between lyrics without jumping to the next note. How did I figure this out? I tried the other two keys and found the one that worked. Novel approach, I know.

That does it, Al! Thank you! I like your novel approach.
