Lyrics: How to insert two words against a single note?

• Aug 23, 2022 - 16:31

Lyrics: In a lead sheet, I would like to insert the two words "from the" against a single quarter-note in the melody. The manual claims I can insert a space character on the Mac with Alt-Space, but this acts the same as the space bar and advances the cursor to the next note. As a workaround I can insert the special character "elision mark" but I want a space. How can I do this?

Depends. If the majority of verses has only one syllable there, the two notes are confusing for many people. Church song books differ in how they go about this ...
(with psalms, it's always necessary to have longer text segments on a single note ... but that's problem another "use case").

Option-space on mac inserts a space between lyrics without jumping to the next note. How did I figure this out? I tried the other two keys and found the one that worked. Novel approach, I know.
