Automation

I am writing out a guitar piece that I have come up with. I have the song done in my head and play it but I want to write out tab and notation but I'm having issues. My biggest issue is MuseScore will automatically put in rests and screws up the measure. I'm writing in 3/4 time and I know I have 3 beats per measure but MuseScore will change the note value on me automatically. How do I turn off the automation? I try to do it in the Inspector when I run into the issue but nothing really happens.

Please post your score and a good description of what is happening. And how you are entering notes. Computer keyboard or mouse.
Yes, after you enter a note, MuseScore fills the rest of the measure with rests. That's why it's usually best to work left to right. I don't know of any setting that causes MuseScore to automatically change note values. If you change from rest input to note input (or the other way around), be certain that the value you want is actually selected.

If you want to upload scores for sharing then GP and MS work nicely together because MS does a good job of direct loading of GP scores, so you get all the ease of use of GP plus easy transfer to MS. GP8 seems to have added quite a few layout options and enhancements.

Both program have their own ways of working, and they are both quite efficient when used correctly. When you say MsueScore is "clunky", what I think you really mean, it doesn't work the way you previously had in mind that it should work, but I think as you gain experience you'll find it's incredibly efficient and incredibly powerful. And no doubt, any sufficientl.y powerful program will seem hard to master at first, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth it. So I encourage you to post the any score you are having trouble with, and describe more precisely what you are struggling with, and we're happy to help you see just how efficient it can be when you know how!
