Import PDF

• Oct 22, 2022 - 19:38

I have used the "Import PDF" capability several times and usually get a response "download" or "unsuccessful" in a few minutes, or at least, in less than an hour. I tried to upload another yesterday and have no response. I tried again, assuming that i had not uploaded it correctly, but still no response. Has that free experimental service been suspended? Or had I somehow managed to fail to upload it? Since I have done it before, I thought I knew how.

I just tried it on a pdf I created in Sibelius (a program I no longer use, ahem). It worked fine - only took a couple of minutes.

Thanks very much. I tried again and, after 15 minutes and it still claims to be uploading (see screen shot below). The pdf is a score 6 pages long, with 2 parts. The reason that I want a .mscz file is simply to generate two parts to play from. I attach the first page of the pdf also.

Richard, in my opinion, the image is not clean enough. There's a lot of dust/ink smudges on the staves, and although the pdf is 300 dpi, the image that it contains looks low-res. I tried to clean it up a bit and got a better result (gant-d), but there are still many errors. I want to follow this thread and see if someone has a solution.

It is the nature of PDF (and Musicxml) import that there will be errors. And I've seen much worse. What is more interesting to me is that we were able to import this one page and the OP wasn't able to get any result. I suspect a major problem on one of the other pages.

To waltm40 - the original pdf was 600 dpi greyscale. The page 1 that I sent may not have been that good. I printed one page and scanned it in. The source, by the way, was IMSLP. Visual examination shows no apparent problems.

Checking to see if the app was corrupted, I deleted it and downloaded a new copy, with no improvement. I tried to upload the very clean 600 dpi version and again got the same blank screen, which I show in the screen shot below. The screen shot was taken after 30 minutes. So, I am totally baffled. I guess I will have to hand-key the score to get the parts I want.

Thanks to both of you for trying to help.

Hi Richard. I went to IMSLP and found a copy that was much cleaner than the pg 1 you uploaded. I just removed the intro page (all text), and it went through the converter just fine. So it looks like you'll have a bit of editing but won't have to enter the entire score. From what I quickly saw, it actually looks pretty good. I also uploaded the pdf from IMSLP (minus the intro page), so you can try your own conversion & see if it works ok. (I like the music - nice sonata.)

Thanks. The copy I was working from was also very clean. It was IMSLP540640-PMLP223995-Loeillet_de_Gant_op._1.pdf For some reason, after I sliced out #3 (this contains all 12 sonatas), when I tried to attach it to a response, I was told that it was too large. So I printed out the first page and scanned it in and that was the one that came out dirty.

Since the mscz you gave me will be easy to edit (should it need to be), it will serve me very well to generate performance parts. I want to play it with a violin on the top and my viola da gamba on the continuo line. Or, with the top line lowered an octave, a treble viol on the top and the base gamba on the bottom line. I will export it as you sent to a pdf and see if I can upload it. I am quite puzzled why I couldn't upload the pdf that I have. If it is is simply to dirty, I would expect a rejection message, something that I have gotten on several that I uploaded before.
