No keyboard input

• Dec 24, 2022 - 04:04

I downloaded Musescore4 today. Went to take a test drive and found that right off the bat, I cannot input from the keyboard. It doesn't seem to recognize the number pad. I fired up version three and it works just fine. Back to version four, and nada.

The mouse input works okay, but that a lot of clicking and I move much quicker with the keyboard.

I guess I'll stay in versions two and three until I get this figured out.

You have GOT to be kidding me! I am not computer literate enough to go mucking around and changing XML files to fix something that should be working "out of the box."

I guess I'll be sticking with version three until this gets fixed. Thank you for the quick response.

You don't lack the nerve! I take the time to help you, and you send me back on the ropes. I'm not a developer, I'm a user like you. And what you write is simply out of frustration. Which I had like you, because I also experienced exactly the same way.
But instead of complaining, and vilifying those who would have wanted to help me, I took the opportunity I was offered to solve the problem. The workaround is really very simple and fast, really no need to know anything about code. Just download a file, go to Preferences/ Shortcuts, and Import said file. That's all!

So, please try (first, close all open MuseScore windows before doing the below)
1. Download the XML file and save to your computer, i.e. : TAB musescore_shortcuts_edited.xml
2. Now in MuseScore, go to Edit / Preferences / Shortcuts, and click the Import button.
3. Select the file you just download. Then hit Open to load the file, and OK to exit the Preferences dialog.
4. Close again when you finish.

Yes. Frustrated.

Here's the problem I'm facing with your solution. I found that file. If I click on it, it opens up, but there is no choice to download it. Downloading is not an option. If I "back click" on it, I get other choices, but nothing about downloading it. Is downloading called something else? If I cannot get it onto my computer, I cannot complete the rest of the steps.

I didn't mean to make you feel bad. And I didn't wish to vilify the developers. Having watched a bunch of the videos on Youtube, it seemed like they worked really hard and did a marvelous job, perhaps my expectations were raised a bit too high in my mind. I've been trying to get other musicians to try Musescore, but right now I'm hesitant about saying, "Download Musescore4, but it's not going to work."

As soon as I figure out how to download the XML file, I'll try the other steps. Maybe I need to use Chrome instead of Edge.

And yeah, since it doesn't work out of the box, it feels like a bug to me. When it's fixed, I'll recommend it to others.
