1) Create any sheet music
2) Add a rit. marking to a random note (Tempo -> rit. -> drag and drop)
3) Go to instruments and click on the eye to hide the instrument
4) Click on the eye again to show the instrument
5) Ta-da! The rit. is now invisible.
6) To show it again, you must close MuseScore and open it again.

Confirmed, if you hide all instruments in a score, the system markings don't come back when you unhide. There has been recent work to improve the behavior of system objects and it is possible there may be a fix pending; I'll look into that.
