Dynamics and chords

• May 5, 2023 - 13:49

Good morning
I have a score with 4 voices (4 staves). The chords are written on the first staff. When I add dynamics on the first staff, the dynamics also apply to the chords. How to make dynamics only apply to the notes of the first staff and not to the chords

THANKS !

There isn't independent control of that. normally you'd want the dynamics to apply to the chord as well, but if you want to have chords that ignore dynamics, you could create a separate staff for them, and make the staff lines, barlines, and other elements invisible.

Hmm, I think you are confused. This question is about chord symbols, not about separate dynamics for separate staves. MuseScore has never had separate dynamic controls for just chord symbols; it instead has always provided a mixer channel for that. Same in MU3 and MU4.

Meanwhile, as always, the way to bring out the melody is not through use of dynamics - thats something pianists do automatically. To get MuseScore to do this, the way is to increase the Velocity setting in the notes in question - not by adding separate dynamics. Separate dynamics are a thing for other special purposes, but not appropriate here for just bringing out a melody.

I agree. This feature almost has me deleting musescore! Why would I want the bass and melody on piano the SAME DYNAMIC?!?! It’s outrageous! They need to go back to musescore 3 with the ability to have multiple dynamics for nonlinear instruments.
