2 - 3 resolutions

Top note is a whole note A. The bottom note is half note G resolving down to F#. How do I keep the top note a whole and have the half note resolve down. When I have the whole note in the measure and select a half note to be placed underneath it, the whole note above turns into a half note as well. How can I keep the top whole note and add two halves under it?
