Add space between choruses in double chorus piece?

• Oct 18, 2023 - 22:58

Hi,

I'm working on transcribing Holst's Ave Maria for double choir. How can I add more space between Choir 1 and Choir 2 (see attached screenshot) so, for example, the accents from the Choir 1 Alto 2 line do not run into the accent on the Choir 2 Soprano 1 line?

Thanks,
Katie

What have you tried so far, and what didn't work for you?

There are various spacer options that you can try. The Handbook describes them but you really need to try them out to see if they suit you needs.

Again, what have you tried so far, and what didn't work for you?

What you need is a solution which you can apply once only, rather than on every page.

To separate Chorus 1 from Chorus 2 I would suggest that you use Stave/Part Properties for the top stave of Chorus 2 (Soprano 1).
1. Select an empty spot in the Soprano 1 stave.
2. Right-click to get the Stave/Part Properties popup screen.
3. In Stave/Part Properties, look in Stave Properties for "Extra distance above stave" - and increase the value.
4. Experiment with values between 5sp and 10sp until you find what is best.
