how can I keep Note Entry Mode off until I want it on?
Any pointers on how I can solve for this: I have my Roland keyboard set up as MIDI controller with MS. I have a score I'm working on. I wish to temporarily play the keyboard to toss ideas about. I attempt to switch off NEM (note entry mode) by hitting the 'esc' key. This action doesn't leave NEM off, as I'd hope it would. Almost invariably, when I look up I see I have inadvertently been entering notes into my score. Now I need to delete all of these unwanted notes (sometimes dozens of them). Can I somehow disable my Roland so it can be played without entering notes, then toggle NEM back on by hitting 'N'? Many thanks in advance.

Wow, I am going to love using this tactic! Can't thank you enough for helping me. And it sounds like reading the handbook would be really worthwhile. I'm sure I could skim through it in a lot less time than I'm spending fumbling around in the dark on my own.
