Upgrading to 4.4 is UNRELIABLE
I just updated to 4.4 and it totally trashed my recent files list, reverting to something from months ago. Also, it has played havoc with my plug-ins, removing the names on some, and refusing to install others. Worse than that, the file I was working on didn't save properly and is now lost.
I'll never upgrade Musescore again unless I absolutely have to. This is a total mess. Fortunately, I have a hard copy, but I'll now have to re-input the entire score.

Musescore saves backup files in a hidden .mscbackup folder, which is located in the same place as your project file.
There should be a file named .name_of_your_file.mscz~
where "name_of_your_file" is the name of your project file.
Copy it to another location, remove the ~ from the file name and try to open it.
It almost sounds like you had MU4 open when you updated.

I'm having problems too. I can create a new part without the software shutting down. I probably did have the earlier version open when I upgraded, but MuseScore asks you to upgrade as soon as you open the software so it's natural to do it that way.

Might be a different issue, as I don't see any pick-up or uncounted measure

What was broken about it?

Nothing. It was related to the left repeat sign in measure 2.
EDIT: But I still assume that the root problem occurs when the program crashes if creating a new part with a single-measure score.
Have similar problem with MS 4.4.0. Using a laptop with Windows 10.
I use MS since years without problems, but this version or upgrade seems to have a really serious problem: I can no longer open any of my previously saved MS files; always get message 'cannot find file' and below that 'your file does not exist or is currently unavaible'

Non-ASCII characters in the file name or the path to it?

I have checked and indeed, I can open a MS score with only ASCII characters in its name.
However, I have created / used / converted / downloaded many files with non-ASCII in it's title over years and never had any problem with them. How come this is the case since 4.4.0?

It is a bug in 4.4.0 and will be corrected in 4.4.1 (hopefully).

It is already, just not released yet

So I will put on hold renaming all the applicable files (several hundreds) to ASCII until the bug has been resolved.
Thanks for your fast feedback, you two :-)

No.
You can then drag them in the Musecore window.
You can use File -> Open.
And you can wait a few days until 4.4.1 is released.

I know (again now) why I never used non-ASCII filesnames for my scores...

The Danish characters Æ, Ø and Å are all ASCII, yet they give the same problem.
Nice that a fix is on it's way.

No, they are not!
They are part of an extended ASCII table.

Indeed! I was really frustrated with the pedal lines alignment.
Good morning,
help!
update for 1 month 4.4 and windows 11
only some partitions appearing in recent files are accessible, but even if I save them again and want to open them from windows explorer:
"unable to open file...
This file does not exist or is not accessible at the moment"
Dozens of hours of work have become inaccessible...
I found the msbackup folders and found the "backed up" files but even removing the unnecessary characters, it still doesn't work.
Thanks for your help!
