Playback lead sheet chords?

• Oct 28, 2014 - 19:21

Is there a way in playback mode to hear the chords which are written by name above the staff on a lead sheet?

Playback improvements like this are definitely lower priority than notation features, but this is something that comes comes up just often enough that I could see something being implemented some day. Realistically, it's an ongoing artificial intelligence problem as to *how* to best play accompaniment from chord symbols - heck, it's an ongoing quetion constantly being worked on by experienced musicians. So it's unlikely MuseScore would ever try to do anything too fancy. But something really really basic would be possible, or perhaps integration with a program like Impro-Visor that speciailizes in this sort of thing more.

Howdy,

Found this snippet when searching to see if there was a way to have chord symbols playback. I realize the AI difficulty in this problem (ie Band in a Box does just this) and that your main emphasis is not playback. However, a simple "boom chuck" style accompaniment (root triad fifth triad) would be nice to ensure that the chords and melody entered don't horribly clash. I'm thinking about using your program to aid in my instruction to music students and such simple chord playback would be great. Is this the kind of thing one could imagine writing a plugin for?

Thanks. I LOVE what I've seen in this program so far!

Hi,

Thanks for writing back. I might be interested in pursuing this later if I get some time. But for now, still trying to get to know musescore (using 1.3 and now just trying 2.0 beta). Am wondering why I didn't get an email announcing when replies to my post here happened (is it b/c I logged in using FB)? Close access w/this forum is key for me at present, as feedback greatly adds to my success using musescore. LOVE THE APP SO FAR, BTW! Simply amazing.

Convoluted, but --

install EasyABC
Export your score to xml
Import the XML into EasyABC
Play the ABC file

Note: make sure EasyABC has chord playback ON (It's off by default)
