Left align lyrics for melismas and tied notes
Melisma (for the sake of this bug report) is any syllable that is sung over multiple notes. Alignment of lyrics for melismas and tied notes is different from normal notes.

"The word or syllable [for a melisma or tied note] ... should be aligned flush left with the left edge of the notehead." ("Lyric", Alfred's Essential Dictionary of Music Notation, p85)
"Words or syllables for notes other than melismas or tied notes are centered to the notehead. If the lack of space does not allow a word or syllable to be exactly centered, at least some part of the word or syllable should be under the note." (Alfred's, p 86).

Apparently, it has been implemented in r2928
There are some problems with the current implementation but I open a new bug report to address those issues:
#5261: Lyrics for melismas should not respace notes if there is room before next syllable
Automatically closed -- issue fixed for 2 weeks with no activity.
